Southbank Tour-Part 2 History!-In Route to Tower Bridge

This was in a tunnel when I was walking along the Thames towards Tower Bridge, not so sure where!

Globe Theater with the Tate Modern in the background

Always liked that round shaped building!

St. Paul's across the Thames

Another tunnel-somewhere

Winchester Palace-12th century palace ruins.Very cool as they had joined it to a glass building which was a cafe. It's kind of off of the beaten path, so very cool just to run into!

Southwark Cathedral

Hay's Market

I think the Brits call that glass building the "Gerkin" which is their word for pickle, which by the way, they don't have here. They only have cucumber soaked in vinegar which they play off as pickles. Oh, but really the building is the Swiss Re Headquarters.

That is what the Brits call the overturned headlight-Really, it's City Hall (and the cafe in front was cool!)

Butler's Wharf-I just loved these walkways across the buildings and the narrow cobbled lane!

Tower Bridge-and what is that, is the sun actually trygin to come out?!?!?

View from Tower Bridge

Not sure what this was, but it was cool (going on the art theme from earlier in the day)!
Tower of London-Didn't go in, just walked around it

There's that girkin again....

Tower of London again-I even saw the top of a Turkeyeater (ok, beefeater) walking in!
So carrying on from the first entry of the day-from the Oxo Tower, I walked along the Thames towards Tower Bridge. Although, for a good part of the "Thames Walk", they make you walk away from the Thames through tunnels and sidestreets because some buildings are set right up against the banks. I found some cool things though like Winchester Palace, Southwark Cathedral, Hays Market, and Butlers Wharf. When I got to Tower Bridge, there was a little bit of blue sky, but I decided to leave walking across the top of the bridge for a clearer day, and just walked across the bridge where the car and pedestrian traffic is. I ended up bear the Tower of London (of course),a nd decided that with the blue sky gone, and the black clouds rolling in, it was time to make it back to Bob'safterall, this little walk along the Thames had taken about 3 1/2 hours! So I foudn the Bank tube stop which was crazy packed (Bank is in the City-where all of the offices are, and as I picked about 5 p.m. to go home, it was a bit of work rush hour).

  1. So, did you do the tower bridge tour? I also liked the apartments with the walkways running between.
